What vaccines are required for boarding?

Proof of Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHPP), and Bordatella vaccinations are required and must remain current. Canine Influenza vaccination is not required but it is strongly recommend it as it is also a cause of canine cough (aka kennel cough). Leptospirosis vaccination is also recommended due to the presence of wildlife in the area. Dogs are required to be on some kind of flea control. Natural flea treatments may not contain clove oil in order to not interfere with scent detection work of some of our sport dog clients.

What are your fees for boarding?

Boarding is $100 per night per dog. For two dogs sharing a run, boarding is $150 per night. Fees must be paid in full at the time of drop-off. A refund will be issued in the case of early departure. The following forms of payment are accepted: cash, check, credit or debit card, PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle.

Do you require a deposit?

A 50% deposit is required for first-time boarding. No deposit is required for repeat visitors.

What are your hours?

Drop-off and pick-up times are available by appointment between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm. Tours of the kennel are also available by appointment.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

Boarding reservations may be cancelled at any time.  Please cancel as soon as you know you will not need your reservation.  Deposits will be returned less a 10% processing fee.

Will my dog be playing with other dogs?

No, group play sessions are not available. Dogs get 1:1 attention that includes walks, free play and exercise, petting, belly rubs, and snuggles, depending on your dog’s preferences and temperament. Dogs from the same household may play together if appropriate.

What if my dog doesn’t like other dogs?

This is not a problem for boarding. Summit Kennels accepts dogs that do not get along with other dogs or may be aggressive toward other dogs.  Physical barriers as well as procedures to prevent reactive dogs from seeing each other or interacting with each other are in place for safety and the dogs’ emotional well being. Group play sessions are not offered. Please be clear on the intake form if your dog has ANY issues with other dogs so that appropriate accommodations are provided. Depending on the severity of the aggression and the type of trigger (sound vs sight) an evaluation may be necessary to determine whether Summit Kennels is an appropriate boarding facility for your dog. Dogs who show aggression toward people outside the context of sport (e.g. Schutzhund, PSA) or military and police work are NOT accepted for boarding.

Do I need to bring my dog’s food?

Yes! Maintaining the diet your dog is used to will help prevent any unpleasant digestive issues. That includes any supplements your dog may be taking. There is a section in the intake form where you can include detailed feeding instructions. You don’t need to bring bowls, slow feeders, or toys for freezing. I have plenty of those!

Can you accommodate my dog’s raw diet?

Absolutely! To prevent stomach upset I suggest that you bring the food your dog is used to eating.  I’m happy to feed your dog whatever he/she is used to eating. The kennel has a kitchen with a refrigerator and multiple freezers and can accommodate a wide variety of diets and preparations.

What if my dog needs to take medication?

Oral or topical medications can be given as directed and is included in the price for boarding.  A Medication Intake Form must be completed for all medications.  I am not able to administer injections.

What do you use to clean the kennel?

I use an accelerated hydrogen peroxide (AHP) cleaner and disinfectant called Rescue to clean the beds, floors, and walls of the kennel. AHP is as effective as bleach against killing bacteria, viruses, and fungi but without the harsh odor. It is safe for pets and people. Outdoor kennel areas are disinfected with Effersan.
