About Me

My name is Becca McCoy and I started Summit Kennels because I love taking care of dogs with big feelings. I’ve been training and titling German Shepherd Dogs in the sport of Schutzhund (IGP) for 15 years. I also enjoy training dogs for scent detection (nosework) as well as canine conditioning and fitness. I especially love the drive, energy, and balance of sport- and working-dogs.

Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be a teacher. Life’s twists and turns led me to a career in biotech instead. My educational background is rooted in both with a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology and a Master’s Degree in Education. In 2019 I left the laboratory to work with dogs full-time. I still love problem-solving and process-optimization and I apply these skills to my operation of the kennel. My love of teaching and education is focused on the dogs and becoming the best trainer I can be.

For the past 10 years, my education has been focused on dog training and animal behavior. I’ve completed over 20 classes through Fenzi Dog Sport Academy, attended seminars and countless webinars from many top trainers and behaviorists from across the country and around the world. I became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPTD-KA 2021-2024) as well as a certified Pet Care Specialist (IBPSA 2019). Many people have taught me many things; however, nothing can replace the experience of living and working with dogs.

Kunai, IGP3, IFH2, ORT

“Kunai”, (Uchiha von Hugelblick), is my first dog to make it to IGP3 and also my first dog trained in advanced tracking (IFH2). He is also the first dog I trained in scent detection (NACSW ORT). At 10 years old, he’s retired from dog sports and currently enjoys patrolling around the property, canine fitness training, catching pieces of cheese, and being my best snuggle buddy!
